Counselling and Psychotherapy are both talking therapies, and while some see little difference between them, I have noticed key distinctions in my work. I’ll explain these below, but there’s no need to decide which approach is right for you before starting sessions. My priority is to work with you at your own pace, allowing you to explore at a depth that feels right for you.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy offers a deeper exploration of broader issues over a longer period of time. It is a talking therapy that acknowledges the impact of trauma and life experiences on how you navigate the world and respond to challenges. Rather than focusing on diagnosis, psychotherapy is about developing a deeper understanding of yourself. Together, we will explore the root causes of your struggles, helping you build long-term insight and resilience rather than just managing symptoms in the short term.

According to the UK Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP), a trained psychotherapist can support you with the following:

-
To express your feelings and process them in a safe and supportive relationship
-
To gain deeper insight into the issues you face
-
To talk about things in a confidential environment that you might not feel be able to discuss with anyone else
-
To find better ways to cope with feelings and fears
-
To change the way you think and behave to improve your mental and emotional well-being
-
To improve relationships in your life, including with yourself
-
To make sense of any clinical diagnoses you have had by understanding what has happened to you
-
To heal from trauma
-
To learn to communicate better and tolerate differences in yourself and others
Counselling

Counselling is often focused on specific challenges you are facing in the present and, compared to psychotherapy, tends to be shorter term. It can provide support during difficult life events, ongoing stress, or daily struggles, helping you navigate what feels overwhelming right now.

Counselling can help you manage:

-
Depression
-
Anxiety
-
Relationship breakdown
-
Bereavement
-
Abortion
-
Work related stress
-
Anger
-
Confidence
-
Stress
Life Coaching
You might benefit from Life Coaching if you:

-
Feel stuck or unmotivated
-
Are unsure how to move forward in life
-
Lack a sense of direction
-
Have goals but don’t know where to start
-
Have been working towards something, but it just isn’t coming together

I will support and encourage you in reaching your goals, helping you explore and overcome any barriers standing in your way. Having someone on your side—championing your efforts and celebrating your wins—can make all the difference.

Life Coaching is structured and goal-oriented. We’ll work together over six sessions, meeting weekly or fortnightly to create a clear, time-specific plan and track your progress.

Life Coaching is not therapy. While our focus will be on practical strategies to help you move forward, if deeper emotional challenges arise, we can discuss whether therapy might be a more suitable path for you.
Couples Therapy
I offer Couples Therapy with a trauma-informed approach, recognising how past experiences can shape the dynamics within a relationship.

Understanding how trauma influences your behaviours and interactions can foster deeper trust, empathy, and connection. Together, we will work on developing emotional regulation skills and healthy communication, helping you navigate challenges with greater understanding and support for each other.

Rewind Trauma Therapy
Rewind Trauma Therapy is a highly effective approach designed to help trauma survivors struggling with distressing flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive thoughts.

Unlike traditional methods, this technique does not require you to talk about the traumatic event itself. Instead, it works by helping the brain reprocess the memory, reducing emotional triggers and lessening the intensity of distressing responses.

Most people experience noticeable effects after just 2–3 sessions, making it a fast-acting and transformative approach. Many find that Rewind Trauma Therapy provides enough relief from involuntary recall to engage in regular talk therapy without fear of retraumatisation.
